Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire. -W.B. Yeats

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Welcome to a new year at Wilder’s Preparatory Academy Charter School.  I am looking forward to the opportunity of teaching your child this year.  With your support, your child will be a part of many stimulating and rewarding experiences this academic year.  I wish to make this year successful for all of us.  We have a lot to learn, so we will have to work together.  My goal is to create a comfortable learning environment that is fair, fun, and challenging.

My purpose in teaching is to help students to think.  It is the enthusiasm that will encourage them to become life long learners and be able to enjoy life to the fullest.

This year will not only bring your student into a new experience in education, but also an enjoy

ment for learning to improve their reading and writing skills.  I hope that each student will leave the fifth grade with an appreciation for knowledge and a desire to be challenged in all subject areas.

I know that we will be able to meet the goals as long as we keep lines of communication open between us.  Please do not hesitate to share your concerns and wishes, as I will always share mine with you.  If you should have any questions concerning your child, I am making myself available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30-4:00 (please call ahead of time).  This will be an opportunity for you, the parent, to stay in contact with me on your child’s progress.  Please understand this is not in lieu to parent/ teacher conferences, but it is merely a chance to stay abreast of all issues concerning your child.  Together let’s make this an excellent and exciting academic year to remember.

Regards,

Ms. Vann
