Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire. -W.B. Yeats

My name is Mrs. Judy Yi, and I will be your child’s Third Grade teacher this year.  You and I will be spending more time with your child in the upcoming school year than any other adults.  Because of this, I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a few things about myself—both personally and professionally.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.  I love to read, sing, and teach.  I received a Bachelor in Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Northridge.  I went to Point Loma Nazarene University for my graduate school.  I have taught Second Grade at Sycamore Grove Elementary School for three years.  Last year I moved to Salinas to teach Fourth Grade in Soledad.

I have planned an exciting year for your child.  As a Third Grade team, we will be going on field trips that are Science-based so that students can learn more by using their senses.  I will be working collaboratively with the other Third Grade teachers, who are Mrs. Zinsmeister and Ms. Li by planning together every Wednesday to help our students succeed in school.  Each Friday, I will be sending home a progress report of your child.  This will help you see how your child is doing weekly on their tests, and class behavior.  Please sign the progress report and have your child bring it back the following school day.

You are the most important person in your child’s life, and we need to work together for your child’s benefit.  I need you to support my academic, homework, and discipline efforts, and I will keep you informed about your child’s progress.  With school and home working together, I know your child can have a successful year.
