Wilder’s Preparatory Academy Charter School

End of the School Year Classroom Celebration

June 16, 2010

Dear Parents,

The school year is coming to an end and I have enjoyed having your child in my classroom.  This has been a wonderful year at Wilder’s Preparatory Academy.  Thank you to all of the parents who have been supportive of our classroom.  Thank you for making this year a success!

The students have done an amazing job this year!  I am extremely proud of each and every one of my students.  To show my appreciation for their hard work and dedication we will have a pizza and sundae party on Tuesday, June 22nd, from 1:15 to 2:45 P.M.  I will provide the students with pizza, however, donations such as beverages, ice-cream, plates, and other sundae toppings will also be needed.  There will be a sign up sheet outside the classroom, please feel free to donate whatever you can.  We will also need classroom volunteers to assist with the party.  Please sign up or send a note if you are able to join us!

Once again, thank you so much for all your support this year.  I hope everyone has a fun and safe summer!  See you next year!!!

Sincerely,

Miss Wilden

June Update from Room 205

Dear Parents,

Here is an update on the happenings in our room.  Have your child tell you more!

Reading, Spelling and Vocabulary: We have finished our state testing in class.  The students worked very hard during this time and I am proud of the improvements each child has made thus far.  Our last story will be Farfallina & Marcel.  The children will be tested over this story next week.  During the last week of school students will be taking home their Practice Books. Some pages in the book have not been completed.  Please encourage your child to use their book over the summer break.

English: Now that testing is done, we are concentrating on our writing. The children will begin to write their Friendly Letters.  We are also putting together our Second Grade Portfolios.  Each child has gathered some of their best work throughout the year and will use this to create their portfolio.  When you receive this, please take the time to go through this wonderful piece of work with your child.  They have worked hard all year!

Math: We have started Topic 12: Fractions.  The children are learning to identify and show fractions as a set, write fractions and decimals in tenths, and use objects to solve problems finding fractions of a group.  The children will be tested over these concepts next week. Our last math unit will be Topic 19: Multiplication Facts.

Social Studies/Health/Science: We are beginning a study in Science on Animals.  In this chapter students will be able to classify animals, identify features that enable animals to live in various habitats, and explain how animals depend on plants and other animals for food.  Students will also learn the life cycle of a butterfly through a hands-on experience.  Each student will raise their own butterfly.  The process will take about three weeks and will end when we release the butterflies into their natural habitats!  Next, we will begin Chapter 6: Avoiding Danger in our Health books.

Read Aloud: Today we celebrated “Wonka Day”.  The children enjoyed watching the movie and completing many fun activities.  Our final read aloud will be James and the Giant Peach, by Roald Dahl.

Field Trip: Thank you to Ms. Bautista, Ms. Williams, and Mrs. Culpepper for accompanying us on our field trip to The Aquarium of the Pacific.  We greatly appreciate your help!

Again, thank you to all of the parents who have donated treats, supplies, and their time to the classroom.  The students and I really appreciate everything that is done.  It has been a wonderful year and it couldn’t have been done without your help. Thank you for everything!

Sincerely,

Miss Wilden
