Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire. -W.B. Yeats

Hello! My name is Jennifer Kim and it is with great pleasure that I will be your child’s fourth grade teacher this school year. I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and am looking forward to a happy and productive school year. I have very high expectations for your child and know that they will be met with your help.

As part of the high expectations for this class, students are expected to fulfill a number of requirements to ensure their academic success. These expectations include, but are not limited to:

  • Completion of all homework assignments. Your child will have homework every night from Monday through Friday, with an occasional option for extra credit. Completion of homework assignments is important as it will reflect the learning that is currently taking place in class and should be practiced at home. It should be something your child can do by him/herself or with some help. I suggest that you check to make sure homework is completed correctly and offer help as needed. Students must read for 30 minutes every day and fill in a reading log summarizing the events from their reading. Spelling contracts are due every Friday. Math facts for multiplication and division must be memorized to automaticity so that it will not hinder learning for future concepts and standards. Homework will be considered missing or incomplete if it is not brought to school on the day it is due.
  • Attendance and punctuality. In order for your child to receive the full benefits of this school year, it is imperative that your child is at school on time, every day. Please send a note explaining absences if they should occur. Beginning this year, students who are tardy for more than 15 minutes will no longer be considered for perfect attendance. However, it is important that students come to school each day, even if they are late.

My goal is to lead students towards reaching their highest potential. I strongly believe that all students have the capability to be high achievers. Students’ learning experiences will align with the California State Standards and prepare them for fifth grade, middle school, high school, college and beyond. You will receive feedback about your child’s progress in the form of report cards, parent-teacher conferences, graded homework and exams, and notes or phone calls to you.

Thank you in advance for your support! We are going to have a terrific year together.
